Machine Learning Engineer

Job description

In the last years we’ve been able to rapidly grow our fleet and team. Last summer we have launched our operations in Germany which marks the further expansion of our international journey.

At felyx we believe our cutting-edge Machine Learning (ML) applications will make us stand out from our competitors. As our number of data driven applications is increasing rapidly, our Data & Analytics team seeks an experienced, motivated, and hands-on ML Ops Engineer to join us in this exciting journey.

Felyx
As urbanization is rising and the air quality is deteriorating, we feel the need to make our cities greener and healthier by offering a sustainable mobility solution. Besides, we offer a new and fun way around town! At felyx, everybody within their own expertise is contributing to a cleaner city by making this swift door-to-door transportation the new status quo. We are working together as an ambitious team of entrepreneurs, operators, marketers, engineers, and looking to grow as we scale the business throughout Europe. Felyx is one of the few micro-mobility players in the world that is EBITDA positive on a group level. We are a young company with more than a hundred employees, working in the operations and at the head office in Amsterdam. You can describe us as passionate, ambitious, entrepreneurial, and transparent. Do you share our DNA? Great! Join our ride!

Here is the challenge

As the number of machine learning applications that are used within felyx is increasing rapidly, the management of those applications becomes more and more important.

As an ML Ops Engineer in the D&A team you’re responsible for the development and maintenance of all our machine learning pipelines. These pipelines contain applications like computer vision models, route optimization algorithms, time series models etc., each with their own specific challenges and requirements. You will have full ownership of your projects to build end to end machine learning systems and modules. On a day-to-day basis you will work closely together with our team of experienced Software Engineers, Data Scientists and Data Engineers.

You will have the chance to really shape this new role within our team and make felyx an even more data driven organization.

What you will be doing

  • Improve the setup of our machine learning pipelines, including steps like data validation, automated model retraining, model deployment and model monitoring;
  • Ship Data Science solutions that impact all felyx users and employees;
  • Act as a linking pin between Data Engineers, Data Scientists and DevOps Engineers and guide them in their ML Ops related work;
  • Design and update our ML Ops target architecture and strategy;
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the rapidly evolving ML Ops domain and apply this directly in your day-to-day work.

And important not to forget: we encourage you to grow with the company and within your role as we continue our journey towards ‘world domination’. Just kidding, market leader in Europe will do (for now).

Requirements

We truly get excited if you

  • Have at least three years of experience as an ML Ops Engineer, Data Engineer, Data Scientist or as a Software Engineer with a strong affinity for data;
  • Have intuitive understanding of machine learning algorithms, supervised and unsupervised modeling techniques and their performance characteristics
  • Have a clear vision on the design of Machine Learning pipelines for the different use cases within felyx;
  • Have demonstrable experience with Kubeflow, Vertex AI, Sagemaker, MLFlow, Airflow or other ML Ops related technologies;
  • Are fluent in Python, Docker, bash scripting and know your way around Kubernetes;
  • Have experience with implementation of CI/CD in a Machine Learning environment;
  • Are used to working in an agile environment;
  • Are fluent in written and spoken English.

Bonus points if you

  • Have worked as an ML Ops Engineer on Google Cloud Platform;
  • Have experience in the mobility sector

Benefits for you:

You will work in a transparent, fast-growing and inspirational environment in which you are able to take the lead over your own career and will get challenged on a daily basis!

And next to that:

  • 29 paid days off on a full-time basis: 28 on the roll and a day off on your birthday! (yay!)
  • You will get free felyx minutes, of course.
  • We want to invest in your future: a good pension plan is therefore in place (1/3 employee, 2/3 employer).
  • We offer 6 weeks of paternity leave with 100% salary for all (upcoming) dads.
  • Great office with great food options (& obviously free coffee, duh!) just 10 minutes from Amstel Station.

One more thing: Don’t worry about buying a suit just yet, our interview process will be online or by phone, and the office dressing code is: be comfortable and come as you are!

Okay, one last thing: In case you are doubting if you meet all the requirements, still apply! We love people and we don’t hire based only on words and cv documents.

And, if you might know someone who fits the requirements better, don’t be afraid to share it with them! We have a variety of openings and you might both end up working at Felyx. If you are a smart person and are excited about the company, you will most likely find a place here.

At felyx we believe that the best workplace is one that represents the world we live in today. This means we believe that diversity in the broadest sense of the word connects us and drives us forward as a company.

We believe that diversity goes hand in hand with different perspectives. It is these different perspectives that can help us become better and more innovative in finding solutions for our customers.

And because we believe this can be achieved, we are looking for colleagues who are intrinsically motivated and bring the right experience. Gender, age, sexual orientation or origin will never be a factor and will never become one.
